In this episode
Next up on Next with Novo, I've got a special conversation about the U.S. prison system's many failures and the urgent need for criminal justice reform with a member of the Galaxy Gives family, Alex Duran. Alex grew up in The Bronx, and at only 20 years old, was involved in a shooting where someone lost their life. He took a plea deal to serve 14 years in prison. During this time, Alex received a prestigious liberal arts degree from Bard College while experiencing many of the criminal justice system's horrors and injustices. This eventually started his interest and passion in education and reform in the criminal justice space. After his eventual release in 2016, Alex joined our team at Galaxy Gives as a program officer managing our criminal justice portfolio. Watch the episode in full to hear more about Alex's life journey, his first-hand experiences of the crippled U.S. prison system, and what we need to do as a society to reform it for the better.
